Why Millennials Will Expect More Remote Jobs
As technology is incorporated into more jobs everyday, Millennials are now expecting work from home accommodations to fit their life style.

As more Millennials and other generations quit their jobs, companies point the finger at the former employees for their loss of workers. But if we dive deeper into the truth of what’s happening, we learn it’s not entirely the worker’s fault. When a company forces workers to end remote working altogether, Millennials and any worker accustomed to such accommodation aren’t going to stick around. Especially if their life revolves around working from home.
More companies have either wholly eliminated working remotely or made it impossible for any employee to have this option. (I’m talking to you, Disney.) And to no surprise, their employee is practically forced to resign because they can’t make their job work anymore. Or they are forced to come in because they can’t find another job that works. Either way, no one wins.

Companies are ruining more than their reputation by eliminating remote work. They are making it difficult for Millennials and every generation to create a decent and workable living environment. And with technology taking over more jobs by the day, Millennials are now expecting more work-from-home options. According to Axios Harris 100 pool, “Millennials are the most likely to want a remote option. A whopping 84% of millennials say remote work is important vs. 66% of Gen Z, 75% of Gen X, and 68% of Boomers.”
So, before we eliminate the work-from-home wave that more generations are getting accustomed to, let’s dive into the reasons Millennials will expect jobs to have work-from-home options:
1. We Need the Financial Break

Millennials have gotten the short end of the stick for a while. But now, with remote work providing a financial break in finding a good paying job online without physically being limited to an expensive metropolitan, we finally get to catch up. And that gives Millennials a much-needed break financially.
2. Work-Life Balance Is a Priority

Millennials have prioritized a work-life balance compared to other generations. PwC did a recent study in 2022 that found “The work-life balance has always been a priority for millennials, and this year’s results reinforce that view, with 95% of respondents saying the work-life balance is important to them and 70% saying it’s very important.” Considering a job is never permanent, but our mental and physical well-being is, remote work is the healthy balance between both.
3. We want increases in Company Culture and Diversity

Millennials want a more culturally diversified work environment from their jobs. And it’s grown as one of the main priorities for many millennials when picking a career or job. Remote work opens the doors for talent from different social demographics beyond the company’s physical location. It fills the needs of both sides of the working coin without losing the skill the company needs.
4. The Environment Will Thank us later

Unsurprisingly, driving in a stressful long commute is terrible for our health. But it’s also bad for the environment too. And taking care of the environment in general by reducing carbon emissions is a massive priority for Millennials, regardless of working from home or not.
When the pandemic hit, the option of working remotely became a necessity for a company to survive. Now nearly every job has a remote possibility if it’s in an office setting. And this new accommodation has not changed Millennials or Zoomers’ minds when they search for their new workplace. However, a unique working environment has arrived, and the new workforce will now expect working from home as almost mandatory. If not full-time, then hybrid.
